Things to do in Santa Cruz das Flores

Santa Cruz das Flores is the small capital of Flores, and for most visitors it is the first and last place they see on the island: the airport sits right on its edge, and car hire desks, guesthouses and supermarkets cluster in and around the centre.

The town itself is a compact grid of colourful facades a few streets deep, walkable in under an hour, with a small municipal museum covering whaling and rural life. Flights connect to Ponta Delgada and Terceira with SATA Air Açores, often just one or two a day, so build in a buffer if you have a tight onward connection.

Treat Santa Cruz as base camp rather than a destination: pick up your rental car here, stock up on supplies, then drive roughly 30 minutes to reach the waterfalls and trails on the west coast.
