Things to do in Mosteiros

Mosteiros is a small village on the west coast of Sao Miguel, about a 40-minute drive from Ponta Delgada and roughly 20 minutes past Sete Cidades. Most visitors come for the natural seawater pools cut into the black volcanic rock and for sunset over the offshore islets, best seen from around an hour before dusk.

This is open Atlantic water, not a sheltered lagoon: expect cold temperatures year-round, some swell, and slippery rock underfoot rather than a calm thermal soak like Furnas.

There is little else scheduled here beyond a short seafront walk and a coffee stop, which is why most people treat Mosteiros as a late-afternoon add-on to a Sete Cidades day rather than a destination in its own right.
