Things to do on Flores
Flores sits at the western edge of the Azores and of Europe, roughly a 1-hour 40-minute flight from Ponta Delgada with SATA Air Açores, and the whole island is built around water: waterfalls dropping off green cliffs, the crater lakes of Lagoa Funda and Lagoa Comprida, and the Poço da Ribeira do Ferreiro pools near Fajã Grande, the island's westernmost village.
Flores and its neighbour Corvo make up the Azores' western group, and their air and ferry links are the most fragile and seasonal in the archipelago, so a trip built around a fixed departure date needs a buffer of a day or two either side.
Flores is also a UNESCO biosphere reserve, and the basalt columns of the Rocha dos Bordões are worth building a half-day around.
